TYE4 CHEST/TRICEP WORKOUT PREVIEW

We just spent a great week in the cool little German town my parents live in – New Braunfels, Tx.  It’s a tourism town and a GREAT place to visit!  There are two rivers that run through the town, and I couldn’t help but use both of them as a backdrop for your next workout videos :).  First, we filmed behind Bubba’s Big Deck at Gruene River Co., right on the Guadalupe River.  It’s a gorgeous location with it’s huge old trees, the river rapids and the interesting wildlife all around.  In the summer months, this is an awesome place to tube the river, kayak or just hang at the bar and watch all the river traffic pass.

MOM & DAUGHTER GYM TIME

It’s hard for me to believe I have a 13 years old!!!!  EEEK!  Really, she is the best and I’m so happy with who she’s growing up to be.  Taylor is smart [er than me], funny, fun, witty, respectful, honest, beautiful, generous, talented and displays self-controll beautifully.

She is at the perfect age for me to introduce her to the fitness world… And that’s SO EXCiTING to me!  When I was about her age, my dad started taking me to the gym and taught me how to squat with proper form with a poll on my back, and now I get to pass this along to Taylor.  At this age, girls are so impressionable and are forming an opinion about their body that will stick with them for the rest of their life.  I am responsible, honored and excited to speak truth into the lives of young girls.

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.  I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made”  Psalm 139:13

I love the way this scripture is worded in the The Message translation of the Bible:
“…body and soul, I am marvelously made!”

NIKE FREE SHOES: REVIEW WITH TYE4®

As you know, I’m kinda obsessed with the NEW TYE4® wearable system from TheMethod Pilates.  It is amazing for spine, hip & shoulder mobility, strengthening stabilizers, improving balance & coordination, and building overall strength and tone.  It can be used while doing lots and lots of different types of exercise.

Today I’m talking about TYE4 and FEET!
SOCKS and SHOES

SOCK FEET… While practicing Pilates, for example, you will want to kick off your shoes. Choose a non-slip sock like ToeSox or something similar.  Tye4 should NOT be done barefooted for a few reasons.  During certain movements, the foot strap will slip and distract from the movement.  It can also irritate the foot, so find a cute pair of sock and wear them proud!

POSTPARTUM EXERCISE

Guest Post:  David Smith
Having a baby can be a very exciting time, but the toll it takes on your body is not likely something many women embrace. The body’s process of preparing to give birth (not to mention the actual birthing process itself) can make even the fittest woman feel like she took a giant step backwards in terms of fitness.

How can a new mom get back into her fitness groove?
When is it okay to start exercising?
Which exercises should a new mom choose?

Those are the questions we answer in this Guide to Postpartum Exercise. This step-by-step plan will help new moms ease back into exercise and then work their way towards your pre-pregnancy shape. The chosen exercises are safe and especially effective for developing core strength (which is crucial for any mom, especially those who had a cesarian section or difficult time giving birth).

Be sure to listen to your body and to have patience as you progress through each of these 6-weeks stages. Enjoy!

NYC THEMETHOD PILATES TRAINING RECAP – JUNE 2014

I just completed the PhysicalMind Institute 2 day E401 Standing Pilates Workshop held at the Chelsea Studios in New York, NY taught by Yuu Fujita, Institute Lead Teacher.  Traditionally, Pilates is practiced on large equipment like the Reformer and Cadillac and is not always accessible to everyone.  Mat Pilates is less expensive, does not require a lot of space, and can be followed by video or live streaming.  Often Mat Pilates classes will involve small equipment like a ring, bands or balls.  Still,  performing Pilates exercise standing has been challenging to master.
For this training, we used the NEW Tye4® wearable resistance system from TheMethod Pilates.  It’s a harness that fits over the shoulder and connects higher on the chest, or lower depending on comfort.  It’s easy to put on and can be adjusted quickly.  It has loops that connect to each foot anchoring the single leg bungee and hand loops that anchor the single arm bungee.  While standing, the bungees function like a “bar” and gives support to movement that require balance.  Because it’s not as stable as an actual bar, it requires the body to work harder to balance.  This type of work is great for developing strong stabilizer muscles and a strong core.  The bungees can also be used to assist in movement and of course we used them to create resistance in the standing position – up to 40 lbs depending on how  the bungees are used!  We also worked through Pilates fundamentals and traditional exercises on the mat.  In this case, the Tye4 functions like a Reformer by providing assistance and resistance.  Mat Pilates is much more effective when using Tye4.  It can also be used on different Pilates apparatus – see here

STAY FIT ON VACATION

WORKOUT ROUTINE ON VACATION?
NO THANK YOU.
BUT WE ARE ACTIVE IN THE ADVENTURE

Whether you work the gym into your weekly routine, attend exercise classes, work with a trainer or workout at home, you have intentionally added fitness to your routine. I hope you have found a workout program that is efficient in getting you to your goals, is safe in preventing injuries and building your body stronger, not tearing it down and is something you enjoy doing.  Even still, it’s part of your routine.

In normal life, we workout to reach a goal – weather it’s to decrease body fat, strengthen muscle, improve cardiovascular system, or provide a “home” we can live in that will support our lifestyle and help us to live to the fullest… and the list goes on.

When I’m on vacation, however, you will not find me in a typical hotel gym or visiting a familiar health club to get in a workout.  Nope.  The essence of vacation is to pause all (or as much) of life that produces stress and requires diligent focus, right?  You know, all the routines and demands of life.   It’s a time to rest, gain new perspective and refresh the soul.  I believe this to be good and true for you physically as well as mentally.  Now if you de-stress and “relax” at the gym – more power to ya!

HOWEVER

I am NOT implying that vacations need to be lazy.  NOT. AT. ALL!  Vacation should also include adventure, and this is where activity happens.  Staying ACTIVE on vacation can be a lot of fun and will push your body in ways it’s not use to!  At the end of the day, this mind set will remove the guilt that accompanies “missing a workout”.  Guilt can be replaced by fulfillment and a sense of accomplishment knowing that you’ve challenged your body beyond it’s norm.  I like to think of this like a “free” workout”!  And you will be able to return back to your normal routine once you get home without missing a beat.

FOR EXAMPLE…
