Every year, as Winter comes to a close, my precious pup Apple (the dog) emerges from the comfort and safety of her house cave to enjoy the new life and adventure that arrives in Spring.
As dogs do, she loves the warmth of the sun and the soft grass under her body. Unfortunately, she has sensitive skin and every year she kicks off the season with an itchy rash on her belly.
In preparation for the dreaded moment of bathing this loofah (her hair actually acts as a loofah… so hard to get the soap out because it just keeps foaming), I made this Dog Soap specifically for sensitive skin. It’s also awesome because as I wash her with it, it DOES NOT recreate itself… i.e… bubble up as I rinse her over and over until I go insane. Cool.
WHAT I USED
- 1 quart of water
- 1 cup nontoxic soap [I use Dr. Bronners Castile liquid soap]
- 1 cup of apple cider vinegar or white vinegar
- 1/3 glycerine
- 2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel
The glycerine and aloe vera gel provide soothing elements for her belly ♥
Mix it and pour over dog. Easy. Simple.
If only washing my dog were that easy.
She hates getting washed (as her face indicates below) but LOVES how she feels after. This time I only lost a little blood in the process and now have a clean, happy and relaxed dog, so WIN!
My daughter thought it was hysterical and thought it appropriate to photograph our battle, so I will share. Let me know if you decide to try it and if you make any adjustments to the recipe!
