Fitness Vacation Recap 3: WEDNESDAY

We were expecting Wednesday to be rainy and cold, so I had planned that we would take advantage of the indoor space for our workout.  Well my weather app was WAY off.  Wednesday ended up being one of the most beautiful, warm days!

the WORKOUT
This is the day I pulled out the skateboards.
Up on the roof was the perfect place to use them!
So up we went….

This is the perfect location for CIRCUIT TRAINING!

Here I am doing a
ROLLING FLY PUSH-UP

This is the ROLLING REVERSE LUNGE.
A W E S O M E hamstring exercise!
80/20 SQUAT
We filmed a mini SKATEBOARD WORKOUT while we were there if you are interested in any of these exercises.  I’ll let you know when it’s available.

CAUTION…
  • I do not recommend doing exercises on the skateboard if you have knee or shoulder problems.
  • Stretch and warm up properly first.
  • If you do try any of these exercises, be sure you are close to something to grab on to if the skateboard decides to buck you off!
  • Everyone of these exercises required a strong CORE!  Keep it ENGAGED!!!  Read this to find out more about ENGAGING YOUR CORE.

the AFTERNOON
Being that this was the perfect weather day we decided to hit the beach!
Some of us enjoyed the waves…

And others enjoyed her beach chair 🙂

a SMOOTHIE
I introduced the group to a GREEN SMOOTHIE.  As I was making it, I has some serious apprehension from my group, but after I made everyone taste it, I had some new believers!
“Wow!  I could actually drink this!”  said Chris.

This is what went in this GREEN SMOOTHIE…
Frozen Tropical Fruit
Greek Yogurt
KALE
Banana
Flax Seeds
and

Fitness Vacation Recap 1: PREP-WEEKEND

Last week I hosted my first Health and Fitness Vacation!
I took a group to St Augustine, FL for the week.  Can I just say that it was awesome???  Well, it was!
This week I will recap our experience,
so be sure to check back in each day to get a look at some of

the EXERCISE

 the FOOD

the FUN

that happened on this
Fitness Vacation.

the WEEKEND PREP

Saturday – 5:00 AM! – I pulled out of my driveway and headed towards the beach!  My car was LOADED with exercise mats, stability balls, bands, rings, a kettle bell, skateboards, and plenty of dumbbells.
It was early, but I love driving at that time of day.
From where I live, the drive took 8ish hours.
Since I homeschool, I was able to bring my son, Iver, along.
It was “bring your son to work” week.  LOL.
And I have to say he LOVES my work!!!
I’m so thankful he is such a good kid.  I loved having him there.

Thanks to Siri, my iPhone got us to the house with no problem.  This house was so much more amazing than the pictures showed online.  We first took some time to explore the house.  Actually, that took a while because it is HUGE!

the HOUSE
The second floor is the living space WITH A VIEW!

Off of the living space is the most beautiful balcony overlooking the ocean.  We kept those doors open most of the time.

On the other side is the KITCHEN.

Out the kitchen doors is the pool.
 the BASEMENT
There is one bedroom and a bathroom down there.  It also has an Xbox 360- which my son was excited about- and a ping pong table.  There are double doors that led out to a water front patio.

the 3RD FLOOR
There are 5 bedrooms on this floor.

the MASTER SUITE

These stairs lead up to the ROOF TOP balcony.
This was by far one of my favorite spaces!
 Oh Yes!
This is where the workouts can happen!

SUNDAY:  I woke up early to the sound of crashing waves!  Great way to start the week!
I enjoyed breakfast with my little man on the balcony.
*SMOOTHIE*

We watched the SURFERS enjoy the bigger than usual waves, thanks to hurricane Sandy.
I spent some time getting focused on the workouts and meals for the week…
while enjoying my ADVOCARE SPARK :)))
Oh, and we ended up down at the beach for a while!

I prepared quiche for the week.  I made 8 pies for an optional breakfast for my crew.
I sautéed the garlic, onion and vegetables I got from
MELISSA’S PRODUCE
in coconut oil from
TROPICAL TRADITIONS
and have to say they turned out great!

That evening my group arrived at the HOUSE.  I loved seeing their reaction to our home for the week!

Here is a video tour I made… Check this out!

We got to know earchother over food and lounging that evening.  We definitely went to bed excited about the fun week ahead.

BENEFITS OF COCONUT OIL

Coconut Oil has been described as the “Healthiest Oil On Earth”

It is rich in
FIBER, VITAMINS, AND MINERALS!
Here are some health benefits:
  • hair care
  • skin care
  • stress relief
  • maintaining cholesterol levels
  • weight loss
  • increased immunity
  • proper digestion & metabolism
  • relief from kidney problems
  • heart diseases
  • high blood pressure
  • diabetes
  • cancer
  • dental care
  • bone strength

Check out The Coconut Research Center for a list of various references on scientific research done on coconut oil.

This is what Dr. Oz has to say about the
amazing benefits of coconut oil:

Diabetes This is one fat that diabetics can eat without fear. Not only does it not contribute to diabetes, but it helps regulate blood sugar, thus lessening the effects of the disease. Island people have consumed large amounts of coconut oil for many generations without ever encountering diabetes, but when they abandoned it for other foods and oils, the results were disastrous.

Weight Loss The connection between coconut oil and weight loss is interesting. Farmers in America discovered this early last century when they tried to fatten their cattle by feeding them coconut oil. Instead of gaining weight, their cattle lost weight! So again, this is not news. Do a simple Internet search such as “benefits of coconut oil” and you will get plenty of details.

Bone and Dental Health Coconut oil improves calcium and magnesium absorption in the body, which in turn is greatly beneficial to dental and bone health. The improved calcium absorption created by coconut oil use ceases tooth decay and aids in the development of strong teeth. The combined increased calcium and magnesium absorption are of great benefit to middle-aged women who may become afflicted with osteoporosis.

Coconut Oil: A Good Saturated Fat? You may ask, isn’t coconut oil a saturated fat? And aren’t saturated fats harmful? Yes, coconut oil consists of 90% saturated fats. But whether or not saturated fats are harmful depends on who you ask. Among mainstream nutritionists, the idea that saturated fats cause heart disease is an “absolute truth” that is never questioned. Those who question this belief, however, point out that mankind has been consuming mainly saturated fats – in the form of butter, lard, coconut oil, etc – for thousands of years, yet heart disease was rare before the 1920s. If anything, the rise of heart disease in recent decades may correspond to the increasing use of polyunsaturated vegetable oils like corn, safflower and canola, as well as margarine.
