FIRST, IT WAS EASY TO SIGN UP – LOTS OF OPTIONS FOR CLASS TIMES AND WAS VERY INEXPENSIVE.   SECOND, THE CLASS WAS TO THE POINT.  KIM McCRAVEN, RN, TAUGHT THE CLASS AND DID A GREAT JOB PRESENTING THE INFORMATION WITHOUT IT OVERWHELMING THE GIRLS.

               A FEW TOPICS

* QUESTIONS TO ASK BEFORE BABYSITTING
* ADULT, CHILD, INFANT CPR/AED
* KNOCKED OUT TEETH

NOW WATCH THIS SHORT INTERVIEW WITH THE GIRLS AND SEE WHAT THEY HAD TO SAY ABOUT THE CLASS

“NOW I CAN HAVE CONFIDENCE IN BABYSITTING BECAUSE I AM PREPARED IF SOMETHING HAPPENS.  AND I THINK MY MOM FEELS BETTER ABOUT ME WATCHING MY YOUNGER BROTHER. “  – Taylor Benson

REVIEW: COCONUT OIL GIVEAWAY!!!

Hello Friends!  I’m excited to share this GIVEAWAY with you!!!
Have you heard of Tropical Traditions?  Well if not, let me invite you to make friends with this fabulous company! They so generously sent me a quart jar of their Gold Label Coconut Oil to review and they are sharing a quart jar with the WINNER of this GIVEAWAY!

So take a look at this short video review and then ENTER to win your own jar!

Tropical Traditions has many video recipes for you to check out.  Check them out on YouTube.  Click HERE on how to use COCONUT OIL.

Keep in mind that when you cook with coconut oil and it gets on your skin, or you use it in your personal products, it absorbs – like everything does – through your skin into your blood stream… and it’s GOOD FOR YOU!  This is another way we are getting rid of those harmful chemicals in our home.

Since the FDA does not want us to discuss the health benefits of coconut oil on a page where it is being sold or given away, here is the best website to read about the health benefits of coconut oil: http://coconutoil.com

If you order by clicking on any of my links and have never ordered from Tropical Traditions in the past, you will receive a free book on Virgin Coconut Oil, and I will receive a discount coupon for referring you. 🙂

Disclaimer: Tropical Traditions provided me with a free sample of this product to review, and I was under no obligation to review it if I so chose. Nor was I under any obligation to write a positive review or sponsor a product giveaway in return for the free product.

GUEST PRESENTATION AT SCHOOL – DIY FUN!!!

My daughter, Taylor, attends a super cool school called Cedar Hall.  It’s a school on a farm!  The classical learning style helps develop a love of reading, learning and exploring.
The hands-on “farm” learning teaches the students about life and gives application to what they are learning.
WE LOVE IT!

I was honored last week when I was invited to do a demo and show the kids how easy it is to make chemical-free common household (and school) products.

 IT WAS SO MUCH FUN!
The entire Middle School.

As you can see, I pulled out my stash of goodies from my “chemistry lab” and handed out a sheet with the recipes for them to follow.
Are YOU curious as to what we made???
Well, I thought I’d be a nice blogger and share with you 🙂

We made hand soap and all-purpose spray for both the girls and the boys bathrooms.  Each decided on the essential oil “flavor” they wanted.

TOOTHPASTE
We all made a batch to take home and try out.
* 1 part Baking Soda
* 1 part Coconut Oil
* 5-10 drops of essential oil:
peppermint  spearmint  eucalyptus  grapefruit
lemon  lime  cinnamon  rosemary  orange
* And everyone gets their own toothpaste container!

NO DOUBLE DIPPING IN MY TOOTHPASTE!!!
The spearmint was the most popular, followed by peppermint and orange.  A few tried cinnamon and we decided it “tasted” like those Christmas cinnamon brooms…
so not for me.
I did warn the kids that this tasts/feels salty because of the baking soda.  Add more coconut oil if you want and you can add a little stevia or sugar to sweeten it… but that seems weird to me because we are trying to remove sugars from our teeth, but some recipes add it.
Check out how easy this is on my DIY Toothpaste video.

Right now Tropical Traditions has their Coconut Oil on Sale!
This is no doubt the best quality you can get and I absolutely LOVE this awesome company.

STUFF TO KNOW ABOUT ESSENTIAL OILS
* Citrus oils pul toxins out of plastics and should only be used with glass.
* Essential oils should not be used undiluted on the skin.  Some can be used with “carrier oils, waxes,     butters, alcohols, or other diluting measures
* Do not take essential oils internally – especially wintergreen and eucalyptus
* If you’re allergic to a food, you will be allergic to that oil.
* Most essential oils are high in antibacterial, anti fungal and antiviral properties… good for cleaning!
* If you use product on a child under 5 yrs, use half the amount of essential oils
* Always test a small area of your skin first to make sure it isn’t  going to irritate your skin

DIY TOILET CLEANER

Today we are cleaning our toilets with out any chemicals!  Oh fun!!!  LOL
And they will be CLEAN! Are you ready?

1. Pour 1 cup of Baking Soda into the jar.
2. Then add 1 cup vinegar.
Remember that there will be somewhat of a science experiment during this step.  This captured the attention of my 7 year old, who asked, “Can I pour it?”
And then…
However, this was so funny to Iver…
and now he was fully invested in my project!
3.  Add your essential oil.
4. Shake it up.
5.  Pour it in the toilet bowl and scrub.
So about THIS picture…
I was cleaning the outside of the bowl before I let Iver scrub the inside (he actually asked if he could clean it!!!… that’s NEVER happened before… ever!)  So as I was wiping it down, I had the normal noise and movement that IS my son behind me.  But when I turned around, I found Iver using the toilet brush as a light saber fighting off who knows what in the bathroom!!!  EEEEEEEK!!!  I’m just SO glad it was a bran new brush that had never seen the inside of a toilet yet!
And then I made him pose for a picture 🙂
And then HE happily cleaned the toilet!
hehehehehe

Well, I hope you have as much fun and adventure that I had when it’s time to clean your potty!

DIY DUSTING SPRAY

Shake it up often because the oils separate.

DIY OVEN CLEANER

CONFESSION
Cleaning my oven is not something I do often ever.  It’s not a place I think to clean.
-Maybe I would if THIS were my oven though-

As I was searching for the best and most practical – meaning easy-  homemade house cleaners for me to use in my home, I came across this chemical-free OVEN cleaner on a website called YumUniverse.com  I really love the recipe that Heather has and I’m going to adopt it as my own oven cleaner!

TOOLS YOU NEED

paintbrush (like a pastry brush)
2 medium glass bowels
scrubber sponge
spoon

INGREDIENTS

1/2 cup of liquid soap
1 1/2 cup baking soda
2-4 drops of essential oil of your choice
1/4 cup white vinegar
water as needed to make thick paste

NOW CLEAN

1. Remove racks- clean them separately in the sink.
2. Add all ingredients into a bowl and mix well.  You will want a thick paste.
3. Paint the paste over the entire surface of the inside of the oven.
4. Let is sit for 6-8 hours (over night maybe???)
5. Fill bowl with clean water and use it with the sponge to wipe off the surface.  You may need to get clean water a few times.

Heather has a great step-by-step tutorial with pictures showing us how to do this.  Take a look HERE.  Thanks Heather for sharing!

Ok, so I want to know who is going to go clean their oven now?  I think I will paint on the cleaner on Sunday evening, let it do its thing all night and then wipe it down Monday morning.  A clean oven for the start of a new week might just inspire me to use it next week!  LOL  We shall see!

DIY Foam Hand Soap!

I USED
Liquid Soap (Dr. Bronner’s)
Empty foam soap bottle
Essential Oils
Water
Optional:
to make the soap moisturize, add 1/2 tsp of Vitamin E oil, Almond oil, or vegetable glycerin
Step 1       Fill soap about 1/4 of the bottle
Step 2       Put 10-20 drops essential oil – I used Tea Tree Oil and Lavender Oil
Step 3       Fill the rest of the way with distilled water
And DONE!
Oh, thank you for asking.
The structure in the background of my picture is the home of our
lovely little chicks!
In a few months we will have lots of
lovely little organic, free-range EGGS!
Thank you Girls!!!

DIY MICROWAVE CLEANER

I’m sure you are very busy today,
so I will keep this short and sweet:
1. Fill a microwave safe bowl full of white vinegar and 15 drops of tea tree essential oil (or another oil you choose).
2. Heat for about 2 minutes.  There will be steam.
3. Wait about 3 minutes and then wipe down the walls with a clean cloth or sponge.  Be careful not to burn yourself with the hot vinegar bowl when taking it out.

The end.
Easy to do while you are washing out our dinner dishes tonight!
